Indiana County Commissioners Recognize Four State Legislators With 2026 Legislative Awards INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana County Commissioners (ICC) recognized four members of the Indiana General Assembly with its 2026 legislative awards during ICC district meetings held across the state in June. The annual awards honor state leaders whose partnership, advocacy and public service strengthen county government and help local officials better serve communities throughout Indiana. “Strong state and local partnerships are essential to serving Hoosiers effectively,” said 2026 ICC President and Elkhart County Commissioner Suzanne Weirick. “These four legislators have demonstrated a willingness to listen to county leaders, understand the challenges facing local communities and work collaboratively toward practical solutions. Their leadership reflects the kind of public service that strengthens trust and advances Indiana’s communities.” The 2026 ICC legislative award recipients are: Public Servant Award - Rep. Alaina Shonkwiler The Public Servant Award recognizes individuals who consistently go above and beyond to support local government and advance ideas that contribute to positive, collaborative community development. The award honors the selfless commitment of public officials who work to create a stronger future for Hoosiers across the state. Friend of Local Government Award - Rep. Ethan Lawson The Friend of Local Government Award recognizes leaders who serve as trusted partners to local governments. The award highlights the importance of strong relationships between local communities and state government and is presented to state officials who prioritize collaboration, accessibility and meaningful engagement with local leaders. County Commissioners Outstanding Advocate Award - Sen. Scott Baldwin The County Commissioners Outstanding Advocate Award honors leaders who demonstrate a steadfast commitment to advancing the priorities of county executives across Indiana. The award recognizes individuals who have shown exceptional leadership in advocating for county government and promoting the important role local officials play in shaping Indiana’s future. Commitment to Excellence Award - Sen. Linda Rogers The Commitment to Excellence Award recognizes individuals who perform at an exemplary level while making notable contributions to the advancement of local government leadership.
