IACC Board of Directors Statehouse Day

IACC Board of Directors participated in a “Statehouse Day.” They began the day at the statehouse by meeting with Rep. David Abbott (former Noble County Commissioner) where the board members had a chance to discuss bills of interest to the IACC.
The day was packed with a lot of activity including attending the House Local Government committee hearing and the floor sessions in both the House and Senate where they were reach out to their respective legislators about bills of interest.
The group had a meeting with the Secretary of State, Connie Lawson, and her Chief of Staff, Brandon Clifton, where they discussed cybersecurity issues. They discussed SB179 that proposes to require counties to use the states program designed to protect against and block attacks generated by phishing emails and other lateral threats. The State received a federal grant to cover the cost for a couple of years. The IACC would like it to be an option to select the states program if they already have an approved provider.
Members also met with Rep. Holli Sullivan, Chairwomen of House Transportation, about general road funding issues. Finally, the team met with the Honorable Lieutenant Governor, Suzanne Crouch. In this meeting with her we went into great lengths discussing HB1364 Jail Overcrowding and the concerns and possible solutions we had about the bill. It was a very productive day and we got a lot done as far as meeting with many relevant legislators and pushing our legislative agenda down the line.
